Standing Rib Roast with Yorkshire Pudding

A standing beef rib roast is sometimes called "prime rib." Prime, however, refers to the grading of the meat and not the specific cut. The USDA grades beef as prime, choice or select depending on its tenderness, flavor and juiciness. Prime beef is generally reserved for restaurants and is available to consumers only in premium butcher shops. You can prepare this recipe using any good-quality standing rib roast.Here, we serve the roast with savory Yorkshire pudding. It is made from the same batter as popovers, but instead of being poured into individual cups, it is prepared as one large soufflelike bread. The key to a good Yorkshire pudding is to have both the pan and the fat very hot when you pour in the batter. This immediately cooks the batter as it comes into contact with the pan and puffs up the pudding nicely. Serve Yorkshire pudding immediately after removing it from the oven, as it will quickly deflate.

Made gluten free

I made this yorkshire pudding (both with and without the roast on separate occasions) using the cup 4 cup gluten free flour sold by Williams Sonoma and it was divine both times. I highly recommend this recipe AND the flour.

This is without a doubt the best standing rib roast and yorkshire pudding recipe ever. We made it for Christmas dinner first and it came out beautifully, then another time because it was so good. It's truly fantastic.

This was so easy to prepare and everything turned out perfect! The sauce is great. I served with fresh asparagus and it certainly looked like I spent a lot more time in the kitchen than I actually did. Highly recommend!!

wonderful recipe for an English classic

This recipe is very reliable. I have made it twice. I always thought of preparing a standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding as a rather daunting task. However, if you approach this recipe with patience, then your effort will yield a beautiful and tasty result!
