Because a rump roast is a tougher cut of meat, it lends itself nicely to preparation in a slow cooker. After long, slow cooking in the aromatic liquid, the roast emerges flavorful and fork-tender.

Best pot roast recipe I've tried

I have tried many pot roast recipes and this is the best one yet! A staple in my recipe box!!! The browning of the meat, while a pain, keeps the meat moist and the tomatoes do not take over in flavor. I do sometimes add the potatoes and carrots a little later and in greater quantity so they are not as mushy.

I use this recipe quite often for shoulder roast of elk or whitetail deer. Both turn out incredible.

This is so so easy to make! It was one of the first recipes I tried when I received my All Clad Deluxe Slow Cooker. I actually use a bottom round instead of a pot roast and it literally almost falls apart from the touch of a fork after hours in the slow cooker. Browning the meat seals in all of the juiciness and smells amazing while you're doing so. The carrots stay a bit crisp and the potatoes are nice and soft and wedges of sweet onions are so sweet and carmelly delicious. This is my go-to recipe for a roast.
