Classic Birthday Cake

This four-layer cake, which boasts a chocolate buttercream filling and a dark chocolate frosting, is the ideal birthday cake. For a kid-friendly version of the cake, omit the rum and coffee in the syrup and the coffee in the frosting and use the vanilla extract instead.

Overly Complicated for End Product
October 22, 2013
While a good cake in the end, the frostings were too complicated for the result. I also don't feel the frosting and filling were different enough to warranty making both. Might be better with more of a ganache frosting to contrast the filling. I think it needed more cake to counteract the sweetness of the filling.
Pros: Appearance, Impressive
Cons: Complicated, Confusing, Lengthy

This recipe was very simple to follow - the frosting is incredible. Much more rewarding than any box could ever be!
