Star Wars(TM) Heroes & Villains Pancake Molds

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a Jedi Kitchen Master used the Force to create three pancake molds in honor of his favorite galactic hero and villains: Yoda, Darth Vader and a stormtrooper. Use these molds to add whimsy and fun to your next pancake breakfast. Set of three Star Wars nonstick steel pancake molds in Yoda, Darth Vader and stormtrooper shapes. Easy to use: place on a preheated griddle and pour in your batter; once the first side has set, remove the molds and flip the pancakes. Handles facilitate lifting and fold down for storage. These molds make pancakes fun!
It was a bit tricky to get the consistency of the batter just right, and I highly recommend using a pancake pen. Even then, it was tricky to get the pancake out of the mold when it was done---until I started spraying the molds with no-stick first. Then everything worked swimmingly! I've been washing them in the dishwasher with no troubles. I put nails in the wall above my stove and have them hanging there--a nice conversation piece.

These are fun and relatively easy to use. I read some reviews about the product not releasing pancakes easy and such. I used a standard pancake mix, but added extra milk to make the batter more runny than usual. I also purchased a pancake pen from Williams Sonoma and this made it easy to poor the batter into the molds. I can't imagine trying to use these molds without something like the pen. I just used it for the first time this morning and had very little issues. I also sprayed the molds with crisco butter spray to help with any sticking issues.
In the end, it's a great product - lots of fun at breakfast. My kids loved it!

AWESOME -- but some tips for use

These works GREAT! Here are some tips I learned...
1) USE A GRIDDLE! I have an inexpensive griddle but it is a DREAM -- can't imagine trying this in a pan -- too small, uneven heating, etc. etc.! Don't waste your time and efforts if you don't have a griddle.
2) Get the batter bottle! This makes it SO quick and easy to make lots of pancakes neatly!
3) Use the recipe they provide. It's a lot runnier a batter than my regular recipe, but it WORKS.
4) Set the molds in a shallow dish of veg oil AND use a pastry brush to oil it between batches.
5) Don't flip too early!
6) When it's time to flip the pancake, use a rubber spatula under the mold -- that way, it supports the pancake and you can flip it much easier.
7) Support Yoda's ears! :)
Enjoy your awesome pancakes! :)

So awesome for nerdy breakfast!

I am the new hero at breakfast time. These molds are too cute! In an good vs evil kind of way. Yes, they are tricky, yes they take some work to clean, yes, they are totally worth it! Have some patience when you first get them and experiement a little. This is what I have found works best: spray mold w some cooking oil & put it on the skillet or griddle to warm up. Once that thing is hot, spray with more oil for good measure. Pour your batter in (pancake pen is a big help here) - but make sure you don't over do it because the batter rises and will get realy stuck in there. When the batter starts to bubble, test the mold by giving it a bit of a shake to see if you can pull it off or not. If it seems kinda sticky, just give it a good shake and wiggle and it should slide off. Be careful when flipping, esp w Yoda. As for cleaning, toss them in soapy water as soon as you're done and get into crevices with a brush. No problem!

These have been sitting unused for months. I have tried greasing them, and spraying them but they stick like crazy no matter what. The end result is a huge mess....

I bought these molds with a fear of sticking (based on prior reviews), but was pleasantly surprised! I preheated the molds and then used Crisco spray right before I put the batter in the molds. I let them cook on side one and then used a potholder to lift the mold (with a little shake to loosen)....no sticking!! I was able to take a wipe any batter that was on the top and use them again immediately. My son LOVED his Star Wars pancakes and begs me to make them every weekend!

Totally Agree- Must pre-heat the molds
I have found that most people complain that the molds stick but like this person, if you pre-heat the mold it makes it MUCH easier to get the pancake out. Once we figured out that little trick, we have had no problems! :o)

Very poorly made product

This product is poorly made and too difficult to use.
Of the three molds, only one is fully usable. The Yoda mold is uneven and won't lie flat on the pan; the pancake batter leaks out the bottom during cooking. The Stormtrooper mold arrived with one eye missing; the resulting pancake appears to be winking at us from the plate.
The Darth Vader mold is the only one to be constructed with any quality; however, it is very difficult to arrive at a properly formed Vader-shaped pancake. This is because there's only half an inch of space between the "eye hole" and the edge. The finished pancake is just too fragile to safely remove from the mold without tearing in two.
Of course, getting to that finished pancake is a huge hassle and not worth the effort. For starters, the mold must be allowed to heat up on the pan before you pour the batter. Also, the entire mold must be heavily greased or else you will not be able to remove the pancake when it comes time to flip it.

I really got excited about this idea. However, when it arrived we received 2 Yoda's and Darth Vader and no Stormtrooper. I guess that is better than not getting Yoda?
As for using the products, they are quite difficult and time consuming. The pancake mix sticks and the molds have to be washed for each use. However, the kids think it is the coolest! So, that is worth 2 stars.
