DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
May 28, 2014
I received this yesterday (5/27/14) Opened it up, assembled it, and it WOULD NOT CRANK. Called White Mountain and Jimmy told me I could order new parts. Told him no thank you, for the price of the maker it should work. Called Williams-Sonoma, spoke with Apiyo who was extremely nice. Explained the unit was defective and she made the appointment right then for UPS to pick it up tomorrow for the return. For the price you pay for a White Mountain and the quality control is so pitiful, spend your money on another brand. Found a Red Shed Icecream maker that is electric and a hand crank unit where I live. Took it out of the box and it worked!! Cost half as much as the defective White Mountain.
Cons: did not work

Electric ice cream machine
May 25, 2014
We have had our White Mountain electric ice cream machine for 26 years. It works wonderful. Never had a problem with the motor. The last 10 years we have had to soak the bucket at the beginning of the season as the wood dries out during the winter. Without soaking it won't hold water. We use it 7-8 times during the summer.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Size, Design

Hand crank mechanism has bad engineering
January 5, 2014
Having made ice cream many times when I was a child I was enthused about buying a new ice cream maker.
However the engineering on this product is extremely disappointing in that the hand crank mechanics at times do not turn the cylinder and at other times freeze up.
I am surprised that Williams-Sonoma did not test this product.
Cons: Difficult to Use
