I do not recommend this product...
December 24, 2012
As someone who has always made her own gravy from drippings, I decided to venture into new territory. This gravy base was pretty highly rated and I thought I would give it a try. The gravy really has no flavor other than a salty brownish (beef?), flavor. The only way to use this would be as an additive to your own homemade gravy to increase volume, if your turkey did not produce enough drippings for your crowd. The greatest offense is the awful preservative taste that lingers in your mouth for a long time. The taste ruins the meal. I would never add this to gravy again or ever purchase the item. Am thinking of writing a complaint letter to Williams-Sonoma. I have loved so many of their products, but this will ruin your lovely meal, don't use it.

Excellent Gravy
December 9, 2012
I hosted Thanksgiving this year, and found this gravy excellent to work with...I did add some of the drippings to it though, and that added extra flavor. Highly recommend adding the drippins.
Pros: Good for Entertaining, Time-saver

Turkey Gravy Base
November 28, 2012
I would agree that this base is not loaded with Turkey flavor, but I do not think it was intended to--you need to add your Turkey drippings.
I made a (brined) Turkey for my hubby and his hunting buddies this fall. My husband's friend/mentor of 30+ years said he had not tasted gravy like that since his mom died--there isn't much that makes my hubby happier than pleasing his mentor.
I thought the product was very easy to work with; I was kind of glad I gave most of the gravy away, as I would have eaten too much myself.
Pros: Good for Entertaining, Time-saver, Texture, Easy to Prepare, Quality

There's a silver lining
November 28, 2012
We have a ton of people in for Thanksgiving and I'm usually stressed out by the time I need to make the gravy. Based on the great reviews, I bought two jars and started heating them up early (w/ whole milk). Yuck! Salty and fake tasting -- at this point I'd rate it one star. I used maybe 1/4 of it to stretch out the gravy I made from drippings.
Here's where the silver lining (and second star) comes in: made a stock from the carcass, then soup -- mostly root vegetables with mushrooms & leftover turkey . Ended up being bland so I stirred in some of the unused gravy base w/ milk and totally fixed it.
Cons: Disappointing, Flavor

Passable but not spectacular
November 25, 2012
It's a good idea and it's really easy to make, but to me it was very bland. It didn't taste any better or worse than the jar of Heinz turkey gravy I usually buy. I doubt I'll purchase it again.
Pros: Texture, Amount, Easy to Prepare, Time-saver
Cons: Flavor

Easy, tasty and a big hit
November 25, 2012
I made this with half and half because I ran out of milk and it was delicious. It may be a bit salty for some taste buds, but my family thought it was perfect. It tastes rich and homemade. I will definitely use this from now on every time I make turkey.

big disappointment
November 25, 2012
I was expecting a decent gravy from Williams-Sonoma, so I bought four jars for a crowd at Thanksgiving. Fortunately, I tried it the day before and threw it out. There is no taste of turkey! Upon looking at the independent reviews, grocery store gravy came out much higher in score. I will be much more wary of buying food from Williams-Sonoma.
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Ingredients, Flavor

Terrific taste, easy to prepare!
November 25, 2012
Funny how peoples opinions differ, but, in my & my families opinion, this is the BEST gravy we have tried that is closest to homemade. Terrific flavor, easy to make, (I did it w/ skim milk and a little bit of the turkey drippings). I would buy more today, but, would be helpful if you would list the expiration date in the text on-line. Afraid it might expire before I could use.....????
Pros: Easy to Prepare, Authentic, Quality, Good for Entertaining, Time-saver, Flavor

Disappointed
November 25, 2012
I read such great reviews on this gravy last year. I don't know if they changed the recipe but it was salty and smelled strange. When I mixed in the milk, it created a strange texture. Will not purchase again.
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, smell, Flavor

Salty Overload
November 25, 2012
On a personal recommendation I purchased 2 jars. I used one jar using equal part half & half. I felt the results were much too salty to serve and chose to discard. I will pass along 2nd jar to person who suggested it.
Cons: Disappointing, too salty

Great Gravy!
November 23, 2012
This gravy base makes a delicious turkey gravy. I only had non-fat milk in the house and didn't want to run back to the store so that's what I used along with a dollop of cognac. It was rich and wonderful with a full bodied taste.
Since we are a small household, we only eat a roast turkey on Thanksgiving so this will be an annual purchase for me.
Any chance you could also package this in a smaller jar (about 8 oz) for smaller households?
Pros: Easy to Prepare, Quality, Flavor

Very Salty
November 23, 2012
I used this Turkey Gravy Base for Thanksgiving and it did not get rave reviews. It is way too salty for my family's taste. The consistency is good, but the overwhelming flavor is salt. I was disappointed in this product.
Pros: Texture
Cons: too much salt

Love WS but hated this gravy
November 22, 2012
It pains me to write this review. The gravy, well, smelled exactly like cat food. It had a terrible texture, almost synthetic. I bought it due to the reviews here on the web site but it was terrible and disgusting and smelled god awful. WS you can do better and you need to with this gravy.
Cons: Flavor

Family favorite
May 29, 2012
I've purchased this base since it first came out several years ago. I've gotten wiser as time goes on -- I buy MANY jars so that we can enjoy it year round! I think all of us like to put our own culinary twist on it and mine is not adding sherry, but a good Port -- I mean the aged, 10-year old (or more) stuff! Just add about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of port per jar, along with half 'n half (or even milk, but only if 2% or whole) and some giblets and it's a hit for family and guests. I hope they NEVER STOP making this product!
They used to sell a chicken and beef base -- but have not seen these for a while. PLEASE bring those back, as well. They were excellent (and great time savers, too!)
Pros: Easy, convenient, adaptable with fixins'
Cons: not available year round!

Thanksgiving must!
November 22, 2011
This is my third year serving Wm. Sonoma turkey gravy base. Each year I add a little something different. The best, by far, was when I used half and half (instead of milk), roasted elephant garlic, sherry and a tiny piece of chopped turkey (I use the Wm. Sonoma turkey brine, so the drippings are generally too salty to use for the base). Family and friends LOVE it. Never have any leftovers.... so this year, making TWO jars!
Pros: easy to use and experiment along the way!
Cons: none

Very Good!
November 17, 2011
Glad I bought this!
Seems like the gravy always runs out before leftovers, so I decided to try this and am very glad I did, it has a good base flavor. I did a "test run" tonight by adding only chopped celery, onions, milk, black pepper & a tiny bit of dried thyme... simmered for 10 min and it turned out great! With pan juices, white wine & more time, this will be awesome on the big day! Other reviewers said it's too salty, I disagree completely - and I am a person who generally dislikes salt flavor.
Pros: Texture, Easy to Prepare, Quality, Time-saver, Flavor, Healthy
