Easy to use. Traditional is best in this case. Small enough to store easily ,yet large enough to sift more than 1 cup.

I got lots of smiles from my wife on this one. She had inherited a sifter from her grandmother that was on its last legs. Actually the screen bottom had rusted out. So this new one arrived and is almost identical, even down to the little wooden knob. She was delighted. I scored points. What I haven't scored is a pie, but I'm hopeful. Thanks WS.

Speeds Up Sifting

After eyeing this sifter for some time, I bought it before starting my holiday baking. It really helped speed up the sifting process and was more efficient than sifting on a piece of paper. It also reduces spillage. You can sift a fair amount at one time, but there is a limit. If you are sifting multiple ingredients together and the amount is greater than what the sifter can handle, I suggest dividing them evenly first.
The sieve part of the sifter is malleable, so be careful in how you store it.

Sifts evenly and efficiently

The four scraping wires efficiently sift flour. Design and construction are traditional and sound. Now I have accurate measure of dry ingredients and a measureable improvement in consistent results for baked goods.

Flimsy Sifter

I was so disappointed in this sifter. Why is this getting so many good reviews?! It is very flimsy and gets stuck if you put more than like a cup of flour in it. I ended up just hitting the side of the sifter with my hand to get the flour through as that was much quicker than trying to crank it. I think I can get a better sifter at a dollar store. Don't bother with this one.

Fabulous Sifter
I am an avid baker and use this sifter 2-3 per week. I have had it for over 3-4 years and it performs admirably. It sifts beautifully up to five cups and cleans up quickly and easily since it is stainless. Sometimes, I place it in the dishwasher instead of hand washing and it has stood up to the test. I love the little hand crank as it is very easy on your hands vs. the squeeze handle sifters. Really love this sifter! Liked it so much, I purchased one for my 90 year old aunt who has severe arthritis in her hands. She is an accomplished baker and loves this sifter as much as I do and it doesn't hurt her hands to sift. Buy this sifter! You will not be disappointed.

A great flour sifter

I purchased this sifter to create light waffles and pie crusts. This kitchen tool worked well for me. It makes sifting large quantities of flour a snap. It's very easy to use and clean. A tool worth having in your kitchen.

Easier to Use Sifter

I needed a sifter that was easier to use than my old one. Due to arthritis I can no longer squeeze the handle of my old sifter. This turn crank works easily allowing me to do more baking. The styling is beautiful too.

FLIMSY AND AWKWARD

I have to say that I am so disappointed in this flour sifter. I expected it to be much sturdier than a grocery store model. The handle is so flimsy and uncomfortable. If you try to hold the sifter by the can it is flimsy and awkward. There is no good way to hold it so you can turn the crank. Flour comes through ok, but the crank tends to catch frequently, if you have more than 1/2 a cup inside. Don't waste your money. I expected so much more from Williams Sonoma.

A good Sifter at last!

At last I have a sifter that works beautifully--it is easy to use, will not rust, the wire is fine enough to do a fine sift, and it is light weight. I recommend this--it meets Williams Sonoma standard--and mine!

Lovely Traditional Sifter

I wanted a new crank sifter because I bought a cheap one from the grocery store, which rusted. This is exactly what I wanted. It's beautiful stainless steel, and is a pleasure to own. It perfectly sifts flour and confectioner's sugar. I would never use anything but a crank sifter - squeeze ones are just terrible. Thanks for this product!

Fine, maybe sifters were like this one back in the day. Things evolved a long time ago.. I mean, come on, a sifter that requires two hands to operate? And the hamster wheel inside is laughable.. it doesn't work much better than using a sieve and gently shaking to sift. Most important, though, $20!! It's not worth it. Save yourself money and get one that works. The standard one-hand operation-type can be had for $10 to $15 elsewhere.

I make a lot of cakes and cupcakes. I often will sift my cocoa with my flour and sugar. With the squeeze sifter this leaves a lot of cocoa I don't want in my other recipes. I love this sifter and was very excited to have finally found one that would clean easily between cakes.

I also disagree. Crank sifters are the best. Squeeze sifters would be annoying if youre sifting a lot of sugar or flour. This is a great sifter, and beautiful too.

I've been looking for this type of sifter ever since I bought a one-handed squeeze type. I found that this newer, supposedly easier type left a ton of dry ingredients unsifted and was MUCH harder to clean.
This one is still the best, in my opinion. Well-made, easy to use, easy to clean.

After having to settle on purchasing multiple chrome squeeze-handle sifters, I finally found one similar to the one I used when I was learning how to bake -- over 50 years ago. In fact, this one is better-it's stainless steel and it's larger! I use to have my mother's but my daughter took it.
The squeeze type hurt to use so I would end up using the "tap the spoon against a strainer" method which could make a mess.
This one will be guarded.

Not comfortable to use

This sifter is no better than the sifter that I received as a wedding present 52 years ago. The handle is not comfortable. Surely, by now, there could be a really good sifter on the market that would be effecient and comfortable for us golden oldies who do lots of cooking and baking. Is anybody out there listening?

It does the job

I bought this sifter a couple of years ago after my old one rusted out. I thought because it's Stainless steal it would not rust, but rust is starting to form around the crank handle. I only handwash and let it air dry. Maybe I should dry it by hand. Also, the bar barely hits the mesh so I constantly have to push up the mesh so it will sift. It's ok, but I probably will shop around before I buy another W-S sifter.

I've been wanting a sifter like this for years. It sifts so easy and everything flows through as it should. It is so much better and all the squeeze handle ones combined. Wonderful quality. I know it will last for many years to come.
