Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe, Brushed Silver
Hand made and individually tested in the Netherlands, the Moccamaster coffeemaker brews a perfect cup of coffee in only six minutes. A copper heating element ensures water stays at the perfect temperature from the brew cycle's beginning to its end. Perfectly synchronizing brew time, grind and temperature, this fast, consistent machine quietly produces one of the best cups of coffee in just 5 to 6 minutes. Special copper heating element keeps water temperature at 195deg.-205deg.F throughout brewing for optimum flavor and less bitterness. An innovative 9-hole spray arm disperses the water over the entire grind for a remarkably even soak prior to extraction. Copper lining along the spray arm keeps the water temperature consistent throughout the wetting stage. To ensure a precise coffee/water contact time, a cone-shaped brew basket funnels the grind to the perfect bed depth. Operation is simple - just fill the brew basket, add water and press the power switch. An independently powered, energy-efficient hot plate keeps coffee at the ideal serving temperature. Adjustable brew basket features a manually operated drip-stop which allows you to adjust for brewing a half pot, a full pot, or a full drip-stop for a quick cup before the brew cycle completes. Several removable parts for cleaning to avoid oil and residue build up, ensuring a great tasting coffee every time. Illuminated power button is easily seen in the dark. BPA free.

The Technivorm Adventure

I began researching drip coffee makers after my previous device failed. The results pointed directly to the Technivorm Moccamaster.
Fortunately, W.S. carried the device, which was moments away from my home. The staff was nice enough to demonstrate the brewing process from start to finish. The design has a very modern appeal and I appreciated aspects such as the the shower head dispersing the water more evenly over the grounds.
The following morning we were expecting to enjoy our first cup of coffee, however, the device would not power on. I returned to the store to exchange the device immediately. The staff was more than happy to exchange and test the exchange before I left. Their customer service is superb
The Technivorm earned five stars because:

I've been eying this coffee maker for a year, and trying to figure out how to get my wife to go along with this product. I got her to go with me to W.S. this past weekend. The bad news: they didn't have a demo model because an employee had taken it home to learn about it, worse news they didn't have any in stock. My wife to my surprise said order one; so I did. UPS delivered it yesterday. Today we made our first pot; the coffee was so much better then any I've ever made or bought at high end coffee shops. I got one, and a half cups out of the pot (as I gave my wife one cup as our morning routine, and a travel mug for work). After she left for work I made a second pot which I'm drinking now as i write this review. I never make a second pot; so that should tell you something.

You Get What You Pay For

The negative reviews appear to be opinions, as opposed to fact. It brews HOT coffee quickly. If my pot gets low, I am able to brew more coffee on top of what is in the pot very easily. I followed descaling instruction from Technivorm, with no problems.
My regular coffee tastes fantastic, as compared to my Krups before

Great Coffee

I've read the negative reviews here and really do not agree. My Cuisinart grinder/maker finally died and I purchased this machine on the recommendations of the sales folks.
At first I thought it was my high expectations, but when my wife and son raved (unsolicited) about the brew from this machine I'm convenience that it’s produces a superior coffee.
Pros: works, great coffee
Cons: only 10 cups

Very nice coffee....

This makes very nice coffee. And keeps it nice and hot. However, I must say that the plastic bits give the maker such a cheap feel. For the price I expected something totally different. Overall we are happy with the quality of the coffee. However the plastic and cheap appearance prevents me from giving this 5 stars.

Retains water after brewing

My concern is mold developing over time. I noticed moisture & cloudiness in the tube that sends water to the bar after brewing. When I remove the bar to clean, it holds water also. I turned the pot upside down to see if water was still in the tube and a half cup of water poured out of the base. I should not have to invert my $300 pot after each use. Is this the norm for drip pots & I just didn't know it?

Technivorm Moccamaster makes delicious coffee!!

Our old Mr Coffee was making terrible coffee, no matter how I varied the coffee/grind/water ratio, but the high cost of good coffee makers and the many negative reviews on almost all the brands made my head spin. The Technivorm Moccamaster had hardly any bad reviews so after further reading and soul-searching about the cost, we bought the Technivorm Moccamaster KGB-741 (glass carafe).
The first pot of coffee - made using the same coffee recipe I had been using in our Mr. Coffee - was so good I couldn't believe the difference. I could taste flavor nuances I had never tasted before. Obviously the water’s optimal brewing temp makes a big difference! So despite the cost, we will be keeping this coffee maker. It makes delicious coffee. It also brews more quickly and quietly than any other coffee maker I have ever seen.

Not so hot

I bought this after reviewing the marketing video and reading many comments. Both my wife and I were a little disappointed on the temperature of the brewed coffee. According to the product promotion video this coffee maker is so good because it heats the water up to 205 degrees F. I measured the temperature and it wasn't close to 205F. I contacted Williams-Sonoma and they graciously sent out a replacement. There was no improvement. They graciously sent out a third coffee maker and the highest temperature reading was 190 degrees F. If you like your coffee hot then you may want to stick with a percolator. I like the design of this coffee maker as it is easy to make coffee and clean.

Useless Untaste Coffee Maker

I had very high expectations of the Holand manufactured Moccamaster. Purchased this coffee maker based on salesperson's recommendation and taste sample at the store (magic)
Cons:
1. Too pricy compare with my other machine Bosch Tassimo.
2. This unit does brew a very quick
3. The coffee is no hotter and nor tastes any better than any other decent drip maker on the market, even using Starbuck House Blend
4- This unit reduce the flavor and aroma even using high quality gourmet coffee beans.
5- I got this unit complete sealed at the store and when I tested at home, the heater support for the glass pot is not working.
Cons:

The Best Coffee, Ever!

I have gone through coffeemakers one after another, then I went back to my french press, which doesn't make enough coffee for company. So, after reading great reviews for the moccamaster , I bought one.. I love this coffee maker!! The coffee is smooth and doesn't upset my stomach. I am so happy and pleased !

Coffee Snobs, This is Your Machine!

1) This beast makes coffee FAST. It's not only convenient, it means less steeping goes on in the basket/filter.
2) This is why you have to be diligent and manually open/close the coffee basket; an automatic "Mr. Coffee" valve would restrict the water and cause bitter "steeping".
3) Forgetting to manually open the valve will cause a few "catastrophes". You'll get the hang of it eventually.
4) Users have reported problems with the thermal carafe. No problem; just get the glass carafe. Using the lower heat keeps it toasty and fresh for a long time. Still jones-ing for a non-heated carafe? Buy something separately or use a thermos bottle.
5) This machine is so well built you may end up willing it to your progeny.
6) Grind your own beans, but not with the Technivorm grinder (it's proprietary to this coffee maker). Invest in a good burr grinder with the versatility to alter fineness for use with other contraptions.
7) And yes, the coffee is qualitatively better.

great coffee!

I bought this for my boyfriend for xmas. The first moccamaster came with a big chip in the heating plate. We went back today to exchange it and just made our first cup of coffee. What a difference! The coffee tastes awesome! We used Maxwells House coffee, which isn't very good coffee, but the moccamaster made it taste delicious. Even though the first one was damaged, it was worth going back to the store to exchange it. It is faster than our old 4 cup Mr. Coffee machine, and is quiet. I absolutely recommend this coffee machine.

This thing makes fabulous coffee.
No matter how strong it's brewed, it is never bitter.
Tip, I always use the 1/2 open setting on the filter holder even on a full pot (10 cups). I think this gives the coffee even better flavor and character.
A lot of plastic and expensive, at almost $300.00, but worth it for the quality of coffee it brews.
I would buy this again without hesitation.

I was worried about buying this coffee maker b/c I thought the design looked complicated and annoying. It is not at all! It only took 5 minutes to figure out after I read the paper that comes with it. The top piece snaps in and really never needs to be moved because the filter compartment slides out w/o removing the metal piece.
Brews hot coffee- that is not bitter. Our old coffee maker (Cuisanart) was producing bitter coffee and we thought it was the coffee. Great coffee maker, much smaller on the countertop than I thought it would be. I really like this coffee maker and I am glad I splurged on it. The copper heating element makes a big difference in the quality of the coffee by making sure the water is sufficiently heated before brewing. Love it.

We had very high expectations of the Moccamaster and purchased this coffee maker based on salesperson's recommendation and all posted reviews. This unit does brew a very quick pot, but the coffee is no hotter nor tastes any better than any other decent drip maker on the market. Despite the mfg claim of brewing a pot at optimum temperature, my old Kitchen Aid Pro unit brewed a hotter pot of coffee. Unfortunately, this unit is now going back. It's just not worth the cost. Until someone designs a better drip maker, it's back to the old electric perk Farberware.
Pros: Speed, Quiet, internal construction
Cons: High-Maintenance, Fragile, too many cheap plastic parts

There is a auto-shut off
The model KBG741 version has the automatic shut off after 100 minutes where the KB741 does not. You can't find it at Williams-Sonoma...

Yes, it's expensive. But it brews incredibly fast, the coffee is the perfect temperature, and it's absolutely delicious. The best coffee I've had since I was in Rome. I recommend watching the video because the printed instructions are difficult to understand.

We looked hard at what was avaliable in coffee makers. Being from Louisiana coffee is not just a hot beverage it is truly a social event with company. This machine while pricey is above the rest in quality and performance.

Great coffee maker!

We have been a Bunn user for over 5 years. No matter how strong the coffee bean, the coffee never had the punch we were looking for. Based on the reviews of the Moccamaster, we decided to take the plunge. We could not be more satisfied. The coffee far exceeded our expectations - we even did a side by side taste test with the Bunn! There is no comparison.
We also find the coffee maker easy to use. We watched the on-line video once.
Highly recommend the Moccamaster if you are looking for a good, strong cup of coffee without leaving a bitter taste.
