Staub Braiser

Not only is this pan perfect for braising meats, but it can also go straight to the table with paella or jambalaya. Staub's innovative enamel coating takes cooking with cast iron to the next level with improved performance, style and durability. Multi-coat enameling ensures strength and heat resistance and creates a deep, vibrantly colored "majolique" finish similar in appearance to fine ceramic for oven-to-table presentation. Resistant to rust, chipping and cracking, the coating requires no additional seasoning like some other cast-iron pieces. The specially formulated black matte interior enamel of each piece contains traces of quartz, giving it additional heat resistance and a rougher surface resulting in better browning. The smooth enameled base is compatible with all cooktops including induction. Extra-heavy lid seals in moisture for tender, flavorful results. Made in France.

Perfect Size
December 31, 2012
This is a perfect size for my husband and me. I have a larger braiser that we use when we have company. But I prefer my Staub braiser. Besides meats & poultry, it's perfect for baked ziti or to use as a skillet. Love it!!! Also, I bought it in Basil - beautiful!

Great Pot to Cook With
November 18, 2012
This is very quickly becoming my favorite pot to use. I ordered this and the 12" frying pan and they are very pleasurable to cook with. They cook well even on my apartment's cheap 70's Kenmore electric stove. I have cooked two chicken based vegetable dishes and I literally just leave the dishes to simmer. All the vegetables cook evenly. The lid's weight helps to create a great seal and helps everything come out nice and juicy.
On the note of sticking, my 12" has a very small amount of stuff stuck to the bottom because I cooked a lot of bacon one day and the fat got burnt in. It hasn't affected the taste and I'm certain that it will come out over time. The braiser doesn't have anything stuck to it. Just remember to heat the pots progressively, things might take a bit of time to cook but they come out great each time.
Pros: Quality, Color, Size, Versatile, Design
Cons: not the easiest to clean

Excellent, versatile cookpot
November 2, 2012
I love this pot! I have the 4qt braiser and use it all the time. I am a beginner cook and have been thrilled with how versatile and easy to use it is. I've had it for about a year and have braised many pork shoulders (for pulled pork and carnitas), used it for browning meat for spaghetti sauce, and even fried eggs in it! Because it is pretty wide (11 inches), I often use it instead of my 12 inch frying pan. It is surprisingly non stick and easy to clean. I put a little olive oil in it before cooking. Afterwards I put a little water in it after it's cooled and any stuck on food comes right off. Keep in mind that this braiser has the smooth interior, not the honeycomb bottom like others sold elsewhere, so you really can use it for frying. I have since purchased a few other Staub pieces -- I love them all, but this is still my favorite go-to pot!
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Color, Size, Versatile, Shape, Design
Cons: Weight

a magic pot!
July 5, 2012
This has become our 'go to' pot for cooking nearly anything.....it never fails me! It cooks chicken dishes wonderfully, keeping the meat moist, cooking the vegetables well but not overly cooked......it's wonderful! It is definitely our favorite cooking dish, and now a favorite gift to give! Everyone should have one!

You'll use this for everything!
June 24, 2012
This is our go to pan for almost everything we cook. If I could only keep one pan this would be it. I own both the large and small Staub braisers and find that I can create virtually any recipe using one of these two pans. I bake, fry, poach, braise, seer, roast, saute....you name it.....using this braiser. I particularly how easily they clean up. I rub a tiny bit of canola oil on them after each use and they sparkle like new and they are pretty much nonstick. Great buy.

This braiser is simply awesome. I use it 2 to 3 times per week and absolutely love it. Everything that I prepare in it turns out perfect - succulent, flavorful and presents very well. Well worth the price. I am sold on Staub. I've also bought the 12 and 10 inch grill pan. Love the colors!

Not what I expected
February 21, 2012
I have several Staub cookwares and am very pleased with the product line. I was disappointed that this piece did not have the signature spikes on the lid as my others. The video that is show as product advertisement demonstrated with this products demonstrates the spikes. My other braiser is smaller, it has a waffle pattern on the bottom of the pan, and this one did not. Nothing in the product information states the waffle bottom or spikes but then the only pitcher does not have a view of the inside of the pan or the bottom of the lid. I returned the product especially since the spikes are on all my other Staub cookware.

Great litle braiser
January 2, 2012
This is a great pan. I was going to get the larger one, but it was sold out, and I'm glad. The small braiser is perfect for cooking veggies or meat for 1-3 people. Like all Staub cookware, it''s functional and attractive.

Staub Hands Down Over Le Creuset
December 31, 2011
This was a Christmas gift to a friend. The smaller braiser...For a 2 3/4 qt size, I was surprised that she could prepare a 4.5 lb chicken...A fan all her life of Le Creuset, she was thrilled with the results of this braiser. And with the quality and versatility of the product, and the ease of cleaning. Staub found a customer!

excellent product for the price
December 30, 2011
highly recommend. excellent quality. one suggestion - tighten the knob after unpacking. follow directions and very little will stick. easy clean up. the lid is like no other. it really assists with the braising. can't go wrong with this product. another suggestion - always use two hands - this pot is on the heavy side.

Another Versatile Product
December 20, 2011
As I said in my review of Staub's Paella pan, the nature of quality cast iron allows for many cooking methods in the same pan. I use this pan in the same way I use the much larger Paella pan, but for smaller quantities. Take some pork chops, chicken or lamb or some other meat and sear on high heat, thus creating a flavourful, browned or caremalised crust; then throw in whatever other ingredients you want and finish the dish in the oven - if you wish -or put on the lid to braise your food in the oven.
Many recipes call for the cook to first cover their braising pots with foil and then put the lid on, but in my experience, this is not necessary with Staub pots, given the fit of the lid and the quality of product.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Color, Easy to Store, Size, Versatile, Shape, Design, Weight

Truly multifunctional pot
October 6, 2011
If I had to live with only one pan, this would probably be it! I have owned this pretty little blue 2 3/4 qt braiser for almost a year. It was my 3rd Staub pan and is by far the most multifunctional. I do use it for braising, but oh so much more! It also doubles as a cast iron skillet, au gratin dish, vegetable roaster, and paella pan (to name a few). Yesterday I made cassoulet in it. The interior has seasoned beautifully and is easy to clean.
Pros: Durable, Size, Design

I use this for everything... really!
September 6, 2011
I just bought this a few weeks ago... I was waffling about getting it as I didn't really know if I'd use it that much. I bought it with a 7 quart dutch oven of which I knew I would use all the time. What actually has happened is that I have used the dutch oven twice and I use this daily. It has replaced my stainless steel skillet and various sauce pans. I saute and make almost everything in this. It does not have the honeycomb at the bottom which I prefer. it is easy clean. I make tons of one-dish style meals and this does the job. I think a lot of people think of this pot as one good for braising meat... but I am a vegetarian and cook a lot of international style meals. I start by sauteing veggies then add my lentils, beans, kale, broth... whatever it may be. The 4qt size is great for a small saute or a big job. It fits a ton in it. I love love love this! The basil color is absolutely gorgeous!!! Way better all the way around than I thought.

beauty and function
May 20, 2011
I love this braiser. I bought one for myself this past winter, and bought one for my daughter as a gift. The Basil color is so pretty. I honestly like the Staub ovens better than the Le Creuset. I have both. The knob on this does get hot. Really the only problem. It's the perfect size for me also. I plan on giving Staub pieces as gifts to my daughter so that she has a nice collection

All purpose Staub - great pot!
April 26, 2011
This is the perfect 'starter' Staub pot and likewise wonderful for advanced cooks. The size of this pot makes it perfect for browning/braising a meal for 2-3. You can do just about everthing in this high quality cast iron pot. Last night I baked corn bread in it, turned out fantastic. If you are wanting to explore cast iron cooking, this is your everyday pot . From roasts/veggies, stovetop dishes, browning/braising and even cakes in the oven, at $99 bucks you can't beat it! And clean up is a breeze with hot, soapy water or a little soak. Just use a little vineagar once a month in your cleaning (hand wash only) to take away any film bulidup. Enjoy!
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Color, Size, Shape, Design, Weight

Unclear which product was reviewed
I don't see any Staub braiser going for $99 so I'm wondering which size braiser or product this review is referring to.

Love The Staub
March 9, 2011
It's beautiful and well made. The colors can work well together if you are a person who isn't afraid of color. The only thing about this pan that Im wondering about is why it doesn't have the same lid system as the others that self baste.
But this stuff is great and you can cook with practically no heat.
I have bought it for a friend.
