Backyard Bugs Cakelet Pan

Our charming baking pan abounds with garden bugs. Featuring four pairs of flying friends - bees, butterflies, ladybugs and dragonflies - perched on a leaf, the pan turns out eight little cakes. Kids will enjoy identifying their favorite critters, then decorating them. Made of cast aluminum, the pan evenly distributes heat; its superior nonstick coating ensures that the cakes release easily. Hand-wash. 5-cup cap.; 15" x 11 1/2" x 1 3/4" high. Made in the USA by NordicWare. A Williams-Sonoma exclusive.

Young Baker Gives Thumb Up for Backyard Bugs Pan
February 5, 2009
I purchased this item for my young, 10 yr old neice for Christmas. She is very creative and was thrilled to have something "different" to bake and decorate. My neice had a special New Year's Eve baking party with a few of her friends. The pan and the enclosed cake recipe (which they followed exclusively) had a successful first trail run! The girls found the pan easy to use and they created the most delightful mini bug cakes. Their next project w/ the Backyard Bugs Cakelet Pan - the school bake sale!

Adorable results!
November 23, 2008
This cake pan yields adorable results! I am not a talented cake decorator, but even if you can't master the icing like is shown on the package, you'll still have a winner! I put three of the small cakes on top of a 9"x9" cake sprinked with green sugar resembling grass.

Cutests Bugs Around
November 8, 2008
It took a long time for me to decide to buy this product just because I wasn't sure how much I'd use it. But all the great reviews and just its plain cute possible uses swayed me to make the purchase. I am so happy I did. So far I've used it several times. My 2 yr old girl loves the shapes and the adults love it too. It is very high quality and box cake batter bake well in it. I was worried the final result would be too soft for the intricate designs, but it was perfect. I'm even thinking of buying a second one so that batch baking is quicker.

Amazing Pan
September 21, 2008
We love this product! The intricate patterns really do show up when you bake in this pan! The recipe that came with it is delicous too! Clean up is a snap with a little warm water and soap. It's truly non-stick, so there isn't much to wash off! I loved this pan so much, I purchased the bee hive, the veggies, the acorns, and the pumpkin patch!

Cute as a Bug!
September 4, 2008
This pan has been so much fun to use! I made these mini-cakes for my daughters 2nd grade class to decorate themselves. It was a great way to supplement their chapter on Insects, and we all had a fun day. The pan is sturdy with easy releasing cakes that retain their shape and design well. If 7 year-old can follow the lines on the cakes, then thats good enough for me! Very fun and creative rainy day activity too.

They may not always come out so super perfect, but the kids love decorating and eating them, especially if you have a budding naturalist in the family. Just a fun cake pan.

Loved this pan
September 3, 2008
I bought one for each grandchild and when I visited one - we use used it with the reciepe that came with it. It did not stick ANYWHERE when I used the spray oil which TOTALLY surprised me because with all the tiny detail - I thought sticking would be a problem. The carrot cake reciepe that came with the pan was delicious and for everyones health we elected to not ice the bugs as planned.

Cute and Easy!
September 3, 2008
I'm not a professional cake decorator but love to make "theme" cakes for all kinds of occasions. Every cake pan I have gotten from Williams and Sonoma has been great - easy to make with a boxed mix and still come up with a personal masterpiece. This pan, the Bugs pan, is no exception. The cakes slide out of the pan after baking - no problem with sticking - always amazing to me because of the intricacy of the designs. The pan comes with ideas for decorating but the shapes are so cute, you really can't go wrong. Have these ready to be decorated for a birthday party (kid's or adults') and watch the fun and unusual bugs that are created. Fun, cute and easy!

whimsical surprise
September 3, 2008
My son got married this summer in an outdoor wedding in a forested setting. We made "bug" cakes as a surprise for the reception. Instead of saving the top tier of the wedding cake for their first anniversary, the bride and groom saved bug cakes. It was a hit!

Versatile & Fun!
September 3, 2008
These cakelets are so versatile and fun! I used them for my daughter's 3rd birthday party and decorated them myself. When she gets older, I'll let the kids decorate their own, as part of the festivities. I also made them for a family reunion, a cookout and Bunco! I love to make them the night before, freeze, and then decorate the next day. You can be as creative as you want, or as simple as dusting them with powdered sugar. They make quite the conversation piece. I also bought the beehive cake pan and have baked just the bees to go around the hive on a yellow pedestal cake stand! Everyone is always impressed with these adorable cakes!
