These classic cookies can be decorated in a variety of ways. They can be sprinkled with colored sugar crystals before baking, or decorated with royal icing using a pastry bag fitted with a plain tip, or a small plastic bag with a corner snipped off.You may use either a vanilla bean or vanilla extract in this recipe.

The Best Sugar Cookies Ever

This is the only recipe I use for sugar cookies. Everyone loves them ... kids and adults. Great for rolling/cutting and decorating with royal icing. If short on time, just roll dough into balls, roll into colored sugar crystals, flatten slightly, and bake. Make extra dough balls and freeze to bake another time.

Perfect for cutting & decorating!

This recipe is REALLY good for cutting and decorating-type cookies. Even better, they TASTE GREAT! They are not too sweet, which is what you want/need for a decorated cookie. Just be sure you do not overbake, or they become hard. Also, the cutters purchased at Williams Sonoma include the same recipe EXCEPT it uses whole eggs, not just the yolk.
