Irish Soda Bread

Popular throughout Ireland, soda bread is commonly made from flour, buttermilk (or sour milk in the past) and salt and leavened with baking soda, rather than yeast. Here, yogurt has been used in place of the buttermilk and rolled oats have been added for a bit more texture. Cut the bread into slices and serve with a flavored butter, jam or marmalade.

Hearty and tasty

This recipe was so easy. I like making breads that don't require yeast. This was one of the best tasting Irish soda breads I have made because of the wheat and bran. Next time I think I might add some raisins. This recipe is a keeper!
Pros: Yield, Quick, Good Value, Easy, Kid-Friendly, Healthy, Appearance, Adaptable, Impressive, Will Make Again

Perfect with creamy soup or spread with butter
January 25, 2011
This was easy to make, looks great, and tastes good too. I used 3/4 cup whole wheat flour and 1 1/2 cup bread flour, as well as using a mix of plain Greek yogurt and organic vanilla yogurt, since I didn't have much yogurt on hand. I will definitely be making this again.
