Grilled Chicken in a North African Marinade
The wine should subtly bring out the exotic character of the aromatics (anise, saffron, ginger and cinnamon) in this spicy grilled chicken. A fruity Gewurztraminer with a kiss of sweetness will do just that. Serve with couscous, a lemon wedge and assorted grilled vegetables. Dependable: off-dry Gewurztraminer. Daring: spicy, peppery Zinfandel.

Odd Combination

I love exotic marinades and this immediately caught my eye. I prepared this to marinate chicken thighs and pounded breasts. I followed the recipe exactly.
The first bite is so strange. To me, the flavours came together to mimic an odd almond taste. Not like a toasted almond, but a strong marzipan-like taste. Very strange. It seemed to dissipate after the first few bites, but I just couldn't get past it. Marizipan and chicken, not a good combo.
I won't be making this again.

This recipe is well-worth the effort. The flavor is unique and earthy with the combination of herbs and spices. I had prepared both beef and chicken kabobs for our casual dinner party. The beef was marinated in a traditional teriaki marinade and the chicken was in the North African Marinade. Well, needless to say, the chicken kabobs were by far the most popular choice after a few early compliments rang out from my guests.
