Clay Roasted Chicken

Well, I found this absolutely FABULOUS! The clay is easily broken w/the end of a table knife! It may "look" like something only "advanced" cooks could do but the most difficult task was rolling out the clay (not difficult @ all). Ingredients are common ingredients and cost very little. Fantastic! My only regret was that my grandchildren weren't there to see the "revealing" of the chicken! i think I'll buy another one just for them, as this was a gift.

You can do this with a pot and pizza dough...

No doubt this would be fun, assuming you don't also crush the chicken. It is true that chicken cooked in some kind of sealed container is excellent. I just want to point out that you can do this same recipe with a correctly sized, heavy oval casserole and dough placed between the pot rim and the lid to seal the pot. This technique is detailed in recent books by Joel Rubochon and Dori Greenspan. To be really lazy, buy pre-made pizza dough since you're not eating it. You don't have to keep buying "the kit".

It may "look" like something only "advanced" cooks could do but the most difficult task was rolling out the clay (not difficult @ all). Ingredients are common ingredients and cost very little. Fantastic! My only regret was that my grandchildren weren't there to see the "revealing" of the chicken! i think I'll buy another one just for them, as this was a gift.
