Sourdough starter keeps indefinitely, and its flavor improves with age. Use the starter to make our sourdough bread (see related recipe at left).

Beats the name brand starters
January 20, 2011
I have been trying to make a good sourdough bread for over 5 years. I have tried just about every sourdough starter on the market from King Arther's to San Fransisco Goldrush. This beats them all hands down!!! It is easy and the flavor is spectacular.

Feeding the starter
May 15, 2010
I have been growing my "mother" starter for about 4 months now, and it is doing well. I have found that feeding it with beer or pale ale (low alcohol) has given more life and sponge to the starter. I let the beer go flat and let it stand at room tempurature all day. I feed it once a week and have been trying it on different recipes to see which comes out the lightest and "doughy-est" Good recipe, and worth the time invested, rather than quick starter.
