Buttermilk Tartlets with Fresh Spring Berries

Buttermilk's tanginess is tempered by the richness of egg yolks and heavy cream in these miniature tartlets. The tartlets' subtly sweet, lemon-kissed flavor lets the fresh, juicy late-spring berries that top them really sparkle.

Loved This!!!

I made this recipe for a friends's baby shower. I made the dough a couple days before and made the custard the day of - with a few modifications. It was wonderful - everyone loved them! It is a simple recipe, no special skills required. I would reccomend this to anyone. Reminded me of the tarts I had when I lived in France.
Pros: Easy, Adaptable, Impressive, Will Make Again

Tasty and easy summer dessert
July 2, 2012
I made these for after dinner this evening. They were really good - everyone got to choose which berries they would like on top. I didn't make the pastry (I had little time and frozen shells handy). The custard wasn't too sweet, which was lovely. My only issue is that the buttermilk custard recipe makes up twice as much as you need. Two options: put the remaining custard into a suitable dish for a baked custard and bake in a bain marie until ready. Otherwise, simply make up half the custard recipe! Very tasty - will make again.
