Basic Barbecue Sauce

Serve this sweet and savory barbecue sauce as a condiment for grilled meats and vegetables. This sauce is pureed until smooth but it can also be left a little chunky, if you prefer.

Basic barbeque sauce
February 24, 2014
I think replacing the chili powder with organic dried mustard would give it a nice Carolina kick. I made a sauce with just tomato juice, ketchup, molasses and powdered mustard, aminos sauce ,salt and pepper and it was awesome. A little whiskey thrown in is good too.
Pros: Easy
Cons: Ingredients

OK but need better ingredients
February 5, 2014
I think having BBQ sauce as an ingredient for BBQ sauce is wrong - instead I would substitute 1oz Bourbon, 1oz Kirin (sweetened Saki), 2oz Maple syrup and also instead of generic chile powder - add pureed chipotle peppers and smoked sea salt (smoky flavor).
Just some ideas to make this better!

An ingredient of BBQ sauce is BBQ sauce?
December 20, 2013
An ingredient of BBQ sauce is BBQ sauce? It is strange to find a recipe where one of the ingredients is the actually the item that you are trying to make.
Skip the BBQ sauce & ketchup and add a shot of whiskey, dash of liquid smoke and a can of diced tomatoes. Increase the cumin and chili powder to taste. You may need to boil about 5-10 minutes longer to thicken.

chili powder?
November 7, 2013
What is your version of chili powder. Technically it should just be ground chili peppers. However most people mistake it for that mix of chili peppers and other spices which should be called chili powder blend. This causes lots of confusion and screwed up recipes. Be precise people. Which do you mean?

Better than opening a bottle

This was an absolutely delicious barbecue sauce that went perfect with pulled pork sandwiches. It was really worth the extra work to make this sauce instead of a store-bought sauce!
Pros: Easy, Adaptable, Will Make Again
