Put 'Em Up!

In this comprehensive guide to home preserving, author Sherri Brooks Vinton offers a reassuring approach to capturing the bright flavors of warm-weather fruits and vegetables in a jar. The book is organized in two main sections. The first covers the techniques of preserving-drying, freezing, canning, and pickling-and includes primers on everything from blanching to the difference between jam and jelly to how to store your bounty for future seasons. A troubleshooting section helps minimize common preserving mistakes. The book's second section offers more than 150 recipes for preserving fruits and vegetables along with dishes that put them to delicious use. Organized by ingredient, from apples to watermelon, you'll find inspiration for all your favorite fruits and vegetables. Paperback, 304 pages.

Not the same-old-same-old recipes
February 26, 2014
Although I am an avid cook, I am new to canning--but advanced canners will find something they like in here too. I especially like the 'gastrique' recipes. I have made the lemon gastrique and drizzle it over my Greek yogurt in place of honey, yum. It pours and looks like honey, but has a sweet and tart taste. I hope to make the tomato gastrique today. The pics are plentiful and the instructions easy to follow. I like that it makes small batches so I am not overwhelmed w/storage. I have many pages tagged, the sign of a good book in 'my book.'

Canning Confidence!
October 29, 2013
Was afraid to teach myself out of any book how to can until I found and followed this excellent book. All the dangers and how to avoid them are explained in detail, methods are clearly described and illustrated. I felt empowered to start with confidence after reading this one in particular. And, the recipes I've tried are DELICIOUS and EASY. I've canned two seasons, now, and it has become my favorite hobby thanks to this book. It's ALL the information you need to dive in head first to water bath canning.

what page is this recipe?
I have this book and love it too and used it several times. I do not see any recipe in it though for Italian Zucchini Pickles. Can you tell me what page it is on, did I miss something?
