Pie Bird

Generations of bakers have used ceramic pie birds to get the best results from fruit fillings. Simply perch our ceramic bird in the center of a two-crust pie, and it will vent steam during baking to help keep the juices from boiling over, resulting in a flaky, not soggy, crust and a cleaner oven. Vintage-inspired design, made of food-safe painted, glazed ceramic. Steam vents through the top during baking, helping prevent juices from boiling over. Hand wash. 3 1/2" high. Made in China.

Blackbird in the Pie

I used it for the first time last night. Even though I did not have a solid top crust, I like the idea of the "blackbird" in my pie like the old tale.
I have two of them and will use them often. I think even using it in the pie that I baked last night, it did help release some of the additional heat within the fruit filling.
Happy with my purchase!

Cute, Little Pie "Bird."

I ordered 2 Pie Birds. One was totally broken in it's box. I am not sure what to do with it?. The shipping container was in perfect condition. I will try to call tomorrow.
