Nice and big to serve favorite beverage.

When I saw this big jar, I was happy and wanted to order. I noticed the spicket was low but that was no problem. It was stainless steel, most are plastic. Used it for gathering and it worked great.
The opening to jar is thick glass, almost half inch. But the sides of jar is 1/16th of an inch thick. I found out the hard way cleaning it. I was very careful, extra careful, cost lots of money. I swear I barely touched the side of jar against sink an a large piece fell out. This piece fell onto tile floor and no further breakage! Landing on tile that piece should have broke into many pieces. If you buy this, line edges of sink with towels first before cleaning! And I'm out a $100.
Pros: nice and big, large mouth opening, stainless steel spicket
Cons: breaks easy, becareful washing

Nicer than anything else I've seen of this kind.

Good clear glass and fairly thick. Good looking. Very nice spigot with great flow that can be tuned from a drip to a gush. It does hold 5.5 gallons exactly if you fill it to the very top of the opening, 5.25 if just to the shoulder.
Does not feel heavy when empty. I wouldn't try to move it when even 3/4 full unless you're a gorilla.
It's 11 inches diameter at the widest which is about half way up. In order to get a cup or glass or anything taller than a about half inch under the spigot you will have to raise it off the surface or put it at the edge.
There is no indication of weather or not it is lead free (it is made in China). It's very nice water clear glass. It LOOKS like lead crystal, but that doesn't mean it is. Soda glass tends to be greenish when it's this thick and it's certainly not borosilicate (Pyrex). I think Williams-Sonoma should say something about that in the description.
Cons: no lead free cert'.
