Williams-Sonoma Red Velvet Molten Lava Cake Mix

Voluptuous individual molten cakes make an unforgettable finale to an elegant evening. Buttermilk adds moistness and a bright, tangy flavor that complements top-quality Guittard milk chocolate. To make the decadent desserts in minutes, just add butter, vinegar and water to our premium mix and bake. Each bite combines soft chocolate cake with a irresistibly gooey red cocoa fudge center. 21.45 oz. (makes 10 cakelets). Made in USA.

Tastes bad and no Lava!
February 3, 2015
I made these exactly as told per the instructions, and they did not come out good. The 'lava' is supposed to be the spoonful of cream cheese that you add on top at the end before you bake them (not the butter/chocolate mixture as prior reviewer thought). The 'lava' did not come out flowing and remained white, not red as pictured, and it did not taste good at all! If I make it next time w/o the cream cheese it should be fine, but the whole point of it is to look like the picture on the box w/the lava. Big disappointment. =(
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Flavor

Delicious but no lava
April 27, 2014
We just tried this mix tonight. When I read the instructions, I was surprised to see that you just mix the melted-butter-and-chocolate mixture into the rest of the cake batter. I thought the butter/chocolate combo would be the "lava". But I followed the directions, and while we did indeed obtain delicious little cakes, alas they do not actually have the lava effect. The instructions are easy and so while I suppose I could have done something wrong, it seems more likely that the instructions should have been to not mix the butter-chocolate into the batter, but dollop it into each ramekin to make the "lava" effect.
Pros: Texture, Amount, Easy to Prepare, Quality, Good for Entertaining, Decadent, Flavor
Cons: no lava

No filling!
Since there are no eggs in this cake, the idea is to undercook them enough for the lava effect. Do no cook them all the way through. They should have made that clear in the instructions.
