Mauviel M250 Copper Double Boiler, 0.8-Qt.

Featuring heavy-gauge 2.5mm-thick copper, Mauviel MPro pans are designed to deliver the highest level of precision and performance. Mauviel's culinary legacy spans more than 175 years, making their trademark copper cookware a favorite in leading restaurants and home kitchens worldwide. This commercial-weight cookware is made in France. Heavy-gauge 2.5mm copper offers unmatched heat conductivity and temperature control. This double boiler is specially designed to reach higher temperatures slowly and gently to prevent scorching delicates such as melted chocolate or custard. The tin-lined copper pan quickly brings water to a gentle simmer beneath the heavy porcelain insert, which maintains its contents at a steady low temperature. Long riveted cast-iron handle keeps hands well away from the heat.

Not 2.5mm thick
December 31, 2011
I am changing my recommendation to would not recommend. I measured thickness with a set of calipers and it's only 1.5mm thick not 2.5mm thick as in the description. The copper I currently own has made me suspicious since it is a true 2.5mm thick. Williams Sonoma should seriously consider changing their description since this information is wrong as well as not being hammered as in the picture. Based on true thickness of 1.5mm, this item is seriously overpriced.

was the correct pan sent?
I was just reading the descriptions of all the Mauviel double boilers. The Mauviel M365 Copper 0.8-Qt. Double Boiler
is described as 1.5 mm thick rather than the 2.5 mm of this pan. Do you think you were sent the wrong pan by mistake?

Avoid this copper double boiler
I ordered my first one just before the holidays 2011, and upon arrival, found that the ceramic insert of the double boiler had grey markings throughout. I sent the product back to Williams -Sonoma and ordered a replacement. The replacement had the same grey markings on the ceramic, and I found that the copper mechanism used to attach the ceramic pot to the handle was poorly attached and lopsided. I also agree with the other reviewer, in that while the first one did have a hammered copper exterior on the bottom pot, the new replacement does not, and appears to be flimsy. This is evidence of both a product description issue on the part of Williams-Sonoma, but more importantly, a quality issue at Mauviel. At $300, I would expect flawless quality, and this is certainly not the case.
