Spots? How does it cook?
November 27, 2014
I've owned Mauviel M250 products for a few years now. I am not one to write reviews but when someone wrote about the black spots, I could not stand by the sidelines, despite the admission by the reviewer that they know copper naturally gets stained. Spots aside, the M250 line cooks more evenly than ANYTHING I've ever owned, akin to heavy cast iron cookware but with a smooth stainless steel cook surface. I've put the cookware through many many hours of rigorous use and the pots and pans age beautifully. I keep them with the natural stains but sometimes for fun, I take out the copper polish and they all look new again. I cannot imagine finding any better cookware. Stains an all. Tip: wedge corks in the handles of the lids so you can lift the lid by the corks to avoid using a towel or oven mitts.
Pros: Durable, Quality

Quality Control - Poor
January 6, 2013
I recently purchased this professional copper rondeau and I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the two pots I received. The copper on the first pot was totally discolored with black stains all over. I requested a replacement and the copper on the replacement was a great improvement however the cast handles are roughed and chipped with indentation. I have not yet decided whether to return the second pot as despite the defects in the handle it is a beautiful copper pot.
I am fully aware that the copper will get discolored especially with use but at this price I expected better qualify from the manufacturer and WS. I am still trying to decide whether to return the item. I wish this item was sold in the store so a customer can inspect before purchase and save the headache of numerous returns with the hope of getting a good quality product.
Pros: Durable, Size, Design
Cons: Quality

Black Spots
I purchased an M250 Saute Pan with Lid which arrived with dark spots like you mention. I used Copperbrill and the spots came off easily without scratching the copper finish.

Black Spots?
I recently got a Mauviel fry pan myself and noticed black spots similar to the ones you described. Did you try to wash them off with Bar Keepers Friend? They came right off when I did that.
