Laguiole En Aubrac 6-Piece Mixed Wood Steak Knives Set

From France's Laguiole region, famed for its expertly crafted knives, each of these steak knives is the work of a single master cutler whose craft begins with shaping the wood and concludes with fitting the blade. Set includes six handmade 4 1/2" steak knives and a wooden storage case. Blades are forged from ultrastrong Sandvick steel. The decorative chasing on the metal spine is the signature of the craftsman who made the knife. Each handle is made of a different wood: apple, walnut, olive, plum, juniper and boxwood. Made in France.

This is crazy
February 3, 2013
By the time I paid for the knives, tax, shipping and special handling, I was appalled to learn the cost came to about $100 a knife. I'm never that crazy. But friends came for dinner, and I served a very intricate pork roast. One guest commented, "This is either the tenderest meat I've ever eaten or the best knife I've ever used." I had the same reaction. I stopped thinking about what they cost. I have noticed that some knives that carry the Laguiole brand say they are dishwasher safe. The instructions that come with these knives recommend not even washing them with water -- just wipe them clean. So I did. Then I wiped the handles down with a food grade mineral oil I have for a fine teak cutting board. I can see that over time, the handles will become lustrous from the mineral oil and the natural oil from people's hands. These, in my family, are now an heirloom. The price no longer matters. They're worth every penny.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Balance, Easy to Clean, Sharpness, Shape, Weight, beauty and wow factor
Cons: very pricey
