Italian Chestnut Knife

The secret to successfully roasting chestnuts is to score the shells beforehand-a task easily performed with this knife. Carving a line or an "X" in the shells allows the nut to breathe during roasting, which prevents them from exploding from steam build-up. Made of stainless steel, brass and rosewood. After roasting, use the knife to remove the meat inside the shell. Hand-wash. Made in Italy.

Much easier and safer
November 9, 2013
I roast lots of chestnuts, and this tool makes it much easier and safer to cut steam vents in the chestnuts shell. Using a regular paring knife, the knife can slip, especially on rounded chestnuts. The sharp edge on the inside of the rounded edge of the chestnut knife, makes the rounder nuts easier to slice a vent into, without slicing ones fingers.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Easy to Store, Design

This is a cute little gadget. It is really sharp and cuts through the hard shell easily. It was very useful in the tedious task of scoring a large number of chestnuts.
