OMG this mix makes the best chocolate ice cream I've had. Follow the directions for velvety smooth and rich flavor. Also had the vanilla. No more store bought ice cream for me. No fuss, no muss, no bother.

We have tried the Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream starters and they are both very good! We bought them to make ice cream with the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker we also bought from Williams-Sonoma and we really like the ice cream maker, too. It is totally safe to use around small kids!!! I am 100% satisfied! I have nothing but good to say about my purchase!

The best ice cream

This is the best ice cream I have ever made. I use the vanilla starter and mix in crushed chocolate chip cookies. OMG, I want to eat it all in one sitting. I just bought the pumpkin, and reordered it the same day. I wish they had this flavor all year. I highly encourage you to buy.

Delicious, But Overpriced

So far we've tried the mint chocolate chip and loved it. It's easy to make, tasty, and I love the chocolate shavings in the mix. The one down side to this product is the price (which is why I'm giving it 3 stars)! I know this is Williams-Sonoma, but seriously? You have to pay nearly $13 PLUS the cost of milk and cream products, just to make a half gallon of ice cream (one canister contains 2 packages that each make a quart; 2 quarts = 1/2 gal). I would NEVER pay anything close to $13 or more at a grocery store for a half gallon of ice cream. Sadly, the only way I can justify using this product again at this price is for special occasions.

Ice Cream Starters

We had this at my sister-in-laws for the 1st time and it was delicious. She followed the directions to a tea. When I made it I used all half and half but didn't blend it long enough so it was a little crystally, but had wonderful flavor.
I'm trying to use it cutting back on some of the fat now. I've only had the vanilla. Will add strawberries next time. Yum!

Chocolate Ice Cream Starter

This item is fantastic. I had previously made chocolate ice cream using kitchenaid recipe; lots of ingredients, had to be cooked, then chilled for 8 hrs, then processed to freeze. With this starter, wisk then freeze. In less than 30 minutes I had very rich and delicious ice cream. I will use these going forward!

Delicious but pricey

I paid $12+ for a canister that makes two batches of ice cream. It is mostly sugar with good vanilla and salt. I estimate this W-S sugar cost me roughly $6/cup, yikes! Ice cream turned out delicious and the vanilla in it was of unquestionable quality. But if you are already comfortable with the qualilty of ingredients you routinely use, save yourself a little money and skip this starter. There are a gillion great recipes, hardcopy and online, that will yield excellent results for even the first time ice cream maker.

This starter is great with a very smooth texture not grainy or gritty like some homemade ice cream can be. Vanilla is a great way to start. You can do so much with this starter make your own chocolate chip, cinnamon, or even banana. (can you tell I like this stuff) I like the taste with very mello vanilla taste. You will not be disapointed with this at all.

I purchased the vanilla ice cream starter and near the end of the cycle of the Cuisinart counter top ice cream maker, I added crumbled Oreos to the ice cream. The ice cream was so delicious and I served it with brownies. I would make this again as it was so easy to make and delicious.

I love to make frozen desserts from scratch. I have a great ice cream maker, and my taste runs to non-custard based, "Philadelphia style" ice cream. The ingredients in these bases are super high quality. I have absolute radar for products made from mixes, and these taste 100% made from scratch. However, what I really love about the products is that you can vary the fat content. If I'm making for company, I use all half and half. If I'm making for myself, I use 1% milk and half and half. I've never used heavy cream at all! They come out smooth and creamy no matter what fat content I choose. I always have some on the shelf and am eagerly awaiting new flavors!

Ice Cream Starter Way To Go

I tried the vanilla ice cream starter for the first time 3 weeks ago. It is fabulous!!!! As I type this I am making the chocolate one. I have tried many other starters, even from scratch and this one comes as close to perfect as you can get. It stays creamy and smooth in the freezer for weeks with no break down. There is no need for setting out the ice cream 20 min prior to scooping. I am a great cook and find this product to be one of the best. I would like to request other starters such as Strawberry, Butter Pecan, Maple Walnut,, and other delicious flavors. two suggstions when freezing, make sure you have a great ice cream machine and air tight container and when placing in the freezer a layer of plastic wrap on top of the soft ice cream will stop ice crystals from forming. You can try my suggestions or not, but please do try the ice cream starter from Williams Sonoma as you will not be disappointed!!!!
