Holiday Lebkuchen Cookies
Invented by Franconian monks in the Middle Ages, lebkuchen is a centuries-old specialty of the Bavarian town of Nuremberg-a former crossroads for historic trading and spice routes. Today, American artisans carry on the tradition, handcrafting the rich, spicy gingerbread according to a classic German recipe. Enriched with honey, marzipan, candied citron, orange peel and nine sweet spices, the dough is molded onto oblaten wafers, then hand-decorated with almonds. After baking, the lebkuchen are topped with a sweet glaze or enrobed in premium dark chocolate. A moist, chewy treat that tastes like a cross between a cake and a cookie, lebkuchen is a perfect partner for coffee, tea or a cold glass of milk. Net weight 16 oz; 5 cookies (3 plain; 2 chocolate). Made in USA. A Williams-Sonoma exclusive.
