These have very little filling. Not worth the cost by any means.

All masa, no meat!
October 19, 2012
These tamales were quite poor. The pictures on-line are incorrect. They are almost entirely masa with little meat and less flavor. We purchased one of each type. Read the reviews carefully. Don't be fooled, and don't buy these.
Cons: Disappointing, Flavor

homemade pork tamales
January 17, 2012
These tamales are very poor examples of this wonderful dish. There were a number of reviews over the last year and I assumed that they were improved. I WAS WRONG. They are still all dough and very little pork and quite tasteless. The Tomatillo sauce is very good.
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Ingredients

Disappointing
January 7, 2012
We recently purchased the chicken
tamales for our Christmas Eve dinner. What a disappointment, they were very bland and not much meat/filling as in the photo showing filling nearly overwhelming the masa, when in fact they barely had any filling, some just sauce and no meat. Very disappointing.
Pros: Easy to Prepare
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Ingredients, Flavor

Disgraceful
January 4, 2012
Our family was looking forward to having the Blue Corn tamales as part of a fun holiday meal. Thankfully, the tamales were not the only item on our menu. The tamales were prepared as per the included instructions and we excitedly opened up our tamales ready to enjoy a little taste of New Mexico right in our home. What sat on our plates resembled over-sized purple (yes, purple, not blue) Twinkies with each containing one scraggly thin strip of tasteless green chilies and literally a thimble-full of jack cheese. The bloated, spongy mesa was at least 99% of the tamale. Our family has been to New Mexico and enjoyed their outstanding tamales. What we received from Williams Sonoma was a travesty and ultimately a poor reflection on Williams Sonoma for allowing such inedible garbage to be associated with their brand. If I could have given this product minus 5 stars, I would have in a heartbeat.
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Flavor, purple twinkies

yummy tamales
January 4, 2012
The tamales were a hit with my family! I could not find local vegetarian tamales that pleased me, so I took a chance with these. I ordered the vegetarian and the pork. The tamales are large, delicious, and well made. The sauces enhanced the flavor and presentation. It would be nice to be able to order by the half dozen for a sampler platter.
Pros: Texture, Amount, Easy to Prepare, Authentic, Quality, Good for Entertaining, Time-saver, Flavor, Healthy

Handmade tamales
January 3, 2012
Worst tamales I've ever had. Couldn't even finish eating one. Very little meat, that was blahhh, and way too much going on the outside. Totally bland even with sauce. I'm from Texas and we know tamales. Wish I could get my money back. First time this has even happened with WS.
Cons: Disappointing, Flavor

Terrible tamales
January 1, 2012
Terrible, terrible, terrible. 98% mesa and 2% filling. Spices were bad. I have hearty eaters around this house, and they couldn't/wouldn't eat them. Thank goodness I had a back up of something else to eat. WS should be embarassed to sell these.
Pros: none
Cons: Disappointing

Tamales-Too Much Outside
December 29, 2011
I love tamales-but not these. These that I ordered were a disappointment. There was way too much "outside" corn and it was dry, also no flavor to it. (I believe I steamed them correctly.) We poured pinto beans over them to add juice and flavor. The inside filling was very tiny. The filling was cheese and green chili. It only had 1 single piece of green chili that ran the length of the tamale and had to be cut with a knife if you wanted to have it in more than one bite. The cheese was probably equivalent to 1 ounce, maybe less. They were put together in a pretty package and the sauce that came with it was very good.
Pros: Healthy
Cons: Disappointing, Ingredients, Flavor, not enough filling

Where's the meat?
December 29, 2011
My family was really looking forward to having the tamales for Christmas dinner. What a disappointment, these were the worst tamales I've ever had. There may have been one bite of meat in each tamale leaving tasteless dry cornmeal to wash down with a glass of wine. I have purchased a variety of foods from William Sonoma and have always been pleased but don't waste your time with with this selection.
Cons: Disappointing, Texture, Ingredients, tasteless

Handmade Tamales Big Let Down
December 26, 2011
The Tamales were very pretty but did not taste like anything. We ordered the chicken and the beef and honestly could not tell the difference. No flavor. Very disappointing. Would not recommend nor order them again.
It is too bad because Williams- Sonoma
usually has high quality products.

Disappointed
December 24, 2011
Have had this product in the past and was pleased with them. Ordered the chicken with chipotle. There was mucho masa (which needed some salt) and scant, tasteless filling. The chicken seemed to have just been cooked and shredded with no seasoning added.. Will not order again.
Pros: Easy to Prepare
Cons: Disappointing, Ingredients, Flavor

Blue Corn Tamales
October 27, 2011
These are wun-der-ful tamales, especially when you live in an area that good tamales are unavailable. They were filled with good cheese and chilis and were tasty. I shared with a Mexican friend and she thought they were tasty also. We did use a different salsa that added to the flavor.

They've Changed
July 15, 2011
I have ordered these several times and then there was a period when they were not available.........something has changed and they are much blander and not like they were before. I will enjoy them but I think something has changed with the pork spices and it seems all masa. They were fabulous before !!!! Wm. Sonoma needs to review the recipe.............Thanks
Pros: Authentic
Cons: Disappointing, Flavor, the recipe or vendor has changed something!

I agree!
I have ordered these tamales many times and always loved them, especially the no longer available duck confit and the mango BBQ sauce; the last time I ordered them, they were not nearly as tasty and came with lots more masa and less filling; I was really disappointed as these had been my very favorite item from W-S; please go back to the previous vendor/version!

Wasn't happy with the tamales.... My husband and I used to be tamale lovers. Haven't had any in years... so we were excited to try these. Very dissapointed. The turned out dry and tasted rather bland. Dissapointed!

Too much tamale
May 18, 2011
I ordered the tamales with pork carnita filling. They would have been better with more filling. Too much tamale surrounding the filling made them on the dry side, even with the tomatillo sauce.

A sad experience
February 22, 2011
I agree with the other reviews We ordered the blue corn and that's all there was: blue corn. So much mushy blue corn, the cheese was rubbery and bland and, well, that's about it. I love tamales and I make them myself and I thought these would be a great backup in a pinch Wrong! After receiving this order, I know that homemade is the only way to go.

Quickly delivered and very tasty. They were out of the ones I wanted, so I took the blue corn ones as a default and they were very good.

great mexican addition

I love these tamales and their accompanying sauces. The blue corn is very tasty and the chicken is also quite good although it tends to get sold out too quickly. A definite buy!
