Vintage Wooden Bowl

More than simply a beautiful hand-carved bowl, this rustic piece is a unique story of destruction and opportunity. Artist Topher DesPres salvages wood from among the thousands of trees that were downed in New York City by Hurricane Sandy, transforming what would otherwise have been wreckage into one-of-a-kind works of art. The bottom of each bowl is etched with "Hurricane Sandy" and the name of the place where the wood was found. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of these bowls will be donated to the New York Restoration Project-read more about the cause at www.nyrp.org. Each piece is unique, made of a different wood, and measures approximately 9" to 11" diam. Hand wash and air dry; do not soak. Made in USA.

Beautiful piece of unique art

I bought one of these bowls for my mother directly from the artist in the Williams Sonoma on Columbus Circle, NYC. The bowl was gorgeous and a natural, unstained piece. The bowl was marked with where the tree was and where it fell. Once I got it home, I stained it a nice dark red and gave it to my mother for Christmas. She loved it and keeps it displayed in the dining room where it matches very nicely with all of her other natural art.
Pros: natural, hand made, supports local artistry, unique
