Vintage Enamel Compost Bin

Once used for food storage in Central European kitchens, our enameled-metal container finds new life as a compost bin for collecting fruit and vegetable trimmings and other kitchen scraps. The perforated lid allows for airflow, while double handles make it easy to carry and empty. Red enameled-metal construction makes it easy to clean. Each vintage piece is unique and displays the natural markings and imperfections that come with age and use. Authentic mid-19th-century found object, originally used in kitchens in Central Europe. Enameled metal displays attractive signs of age and wear that add to the bin's authenticity. Sizes and details will vary slightly; each of these vintage items is unique and no two are exactly alike. Approx. 8"-12" diam., 10"-16" high. From Central Europe; country of manufacture is unknown. A Williams-Sonoma exclusive.

Great Compost Tin
October 25, 2013
I am glad that I read the reviews so I was not surprised by how big the bin actually is. The bin is really nice looking, great red color with a weathered chipped surface and the interior has a nice speckled enamel finish which makes easy to clean. Though too big to fit on the counter it looks great sitting on the floor in a corner of the kitchen.
The one I received has a little flip latch which is an added bonus.
Pros: Easy to Clean, Appearance
Cons: Size

It's Pretty Big
March 29, 2013
I was under the impression this was something I could keep on my counter to store coffee grinds and green waste prior to composting. It is REALLY big. Basically it is every bit as large as a five gallon pail. So if you had a commercial kitchen this is a good sized compost container for you. Other than that, it's a good designer piece for dry arrangements or nice even w/o. I put mine next to a book case and it looks great. Beautiful finish with a stoneware interior.Dimensions on mine: 15" base x 17" height.
Pros: nice finish, true vintage look, good quality
Cons: too big for counter top use
