Cast Iron Smoke & Sear Station

Our smoke and sear platform allows you to easily achieve the intense, smoky flavor of a charcoal grill on a conventional gas grill. When smoking, food cooks on the cast-iron platform directly over smoldering wood chips for a more concentrated smoky flavor. Fill the platform reservoirs with water, beer, wine, juice, stock or other liquid to create a humid grilling environment, so meat retains a higher percentage of natural juices. For searing, remove the top smoking platform and utilize the searing plate beneath for perfectly seared and juicy meat and seafood. Seasoned cast-iron searing plate. 8.9" x 10.8". Made in China. Williams-Sonoma exclusive.

Exceeded expectations
June 27, 2014
The reason I bought this was because I love my steaks "black and blue" and it is impossible to find a grill with enough BTUs to do that. By the time the outside is crispy, the inside is well done. So I thought the idea of a "searing station" would be a great solution - sear the meat fast and get the external temp way up without a corresponding overheating of the center. And boy does this do that. I've had several opportunities to use this, and the results have been excellent: a nice charred exterior and a reasonably red interior.
The smoker use is fine. Because you are grilling rather than smoking, the flavor is not as profound as smoking, but it does add a nice smokey "suggestion" to whatever you cook. Be aware that if you keep the lid to your grill closed, everything else gets smoked a little, too. But for me, that's not necessarily a drawback.
Pros: Easy to Use, Quality

Great idea - poorly executed
September 10, 2013
The idea of a durable, grill top smoker is great. Unfortunately, this product does not live up to expectations. It is extremely difficult to clean after use. More seriously, it has several extremely sharp (almost razor like) edges that caused me to cut my fingers each time I cleaned it. I eventually just threw out the product in frustration.
Cons: Difficult to Clean, Weight, Difficult to Store, sharp edges
