bottom of plate wasn't sealed

I absolutely love the look and feel of these plates but had to return them. The bottom wasn't sealed so the plate absorbs water during washing. The water slowly leaches out and gets on whatever surface it touches. I put them on my wood shelves and they damaged them. They were also stacked on top of eachother and therefore held water in between each plate. I was so disappointed and am upset about my wooden shelves.

Love the rustic look

I really love the rustic look and unlike another reviewer, I like heavier plates and utensils. My only problem is having to handle these with extra care to avoid chipping. Many of the plates in the store were chipped and I failed to inspect them thoroughly. This resulted in my having to make 2 exchanges. I like the fact that they can go in the dishwasher. I just bought the platter and serving bowl and didn't notice until I got home that these read "hand wash" on the bottom.
Pros: Color, heavy, Design
Cons: chips easily

Heavy and Other "Warnings"

Dinner Plates are very heavy/thick. Need to be sure they will fit between bottom plate racks in dishwasher AND run dishwasher on full dry cycle because the plates are unglazed clay on the bottom and will absorb water. Also need to use placemats on table because hot food will make the plates "sweat" and leave steam rings on your wooden table top. Love the rustic colors/pattern. Because of the roughness, heaviness, and unfinished bottoms, I would not recommend to my friends.
Purchased 12 plates at Toledo store. Additionally, I was not happy with salesperson's response when I needed to exchange three plates with glazing issues. Did this at store in Ann Arbor because this is where I work. Manager was called in to resolve issue. Store employee should have been less confrontational. I felt as though she was trying to turn me away.
Pros: beautiful dishes, rustic decor
