Breville brings its legendary innovation to this high-performance machine. Choose to manually select your preferred grind or use the Grind IQ feature that automatically produces the perfect amount of ground coffee based on your selected grind size and desired number of shots or cups. A Great Grinder...with tiny caveat

I've had this item for two months now, and couldn't be happier with it. It's easy, reliable, and clean. I grind my coffee directly into my Melitta 2-cup paper filter: perfectly ground coffee and mess-free. Every once in awhile I have to rock it from side to side to keep beans flowing into the grinder, so it is a wee bit temperamental. Not a big problem tho.
One thing to know, however, is that the hopper does not hold a pound of beans. It holds about 3/4 of a pound. Small annoyance but not really a reason to pass up this grinder.

This grinder is wonderful. It is very easy to use and easy to clean. I have had other grinders and they do not last, this one will. It is very durable.

Great grinder

I use this to grind coffee for my Keurig. It works perfect. Once you get the settings dialed into suit your taste all you have to do is hold the my K-cup filter under the grinder and push the start button. Same great taste every time!

...I had a Capresso burr grinder and wondered if this really could be better. Quieter....and I love that I can put my filter right under the spout so there is no coffee dust around.

Worked well for a few months, and then...

This was great when I first purchased it. As promised, it produced no coffee dust and it worked perfectly.
After a few months however, it would easily get clogged or not get enough beans to the burrs and it produced profuse amounts of coffee dust.
I am replacing it with a Kitchen Aid Pro Grinder, and I don't recommend it.

frequently clogs

When the Breville conical grinder works, it is great. I find that it frequently clogs, however, and by frequently I mean about every fifth or sixth time I use it. Unclogging requires taking pieces apart, which usually results in ground and partially ground coffee all over my kitchen counter. Not only would I not recommend this, I'm thinking of burying mine at the back of a cabinet because I find it so annoying - sad commentary for something so expensive.

LOVE my new grinder

This is my 3rd Burr Grinder. My last one was the Virtuoso. Although, it was an improvement over Capresso, i found it difficult to clean, the knob/lever on the side popped off periodically from the vibration and it didn't seem to be able to consistently grind a fine enough grind for my Hario dripper. Anyway, since the purchase of my SmartGrinder, I have had the best tasting cups of coffee at home in the last couple of years...from the same coffee beans that last week was just okay.

I purchased the smart grinder to replace a pretty decent Kitchenaid Proline grinder that I didn't think was giving me the best grind and the grind seemed inconsistent. The Breville double-boiler machine made a great and occasionally REALLY great cup but not often enough.
After a friends recommendation and reading all the 5 start reviews here, I picked up the smart grinder and filled it with what remained of a bag of freshly roasted beans from a local organic chain market. Previous attempts proved these beans were somewhat mediocre.
I ground a couple test espressos to get the grind and volume right, noticing that the Breville grinder produced a MUCH more consistent and finer grind. Then I brewed a 2 shot pull and.. WOW.. rich dark chocolate flavors with a hint of sweet caramel.. Easily the 2nd or 3rd best tasting cup I've had in 3 months of using the espresso machine. THIS grinder made THAT much of a difference over a $150 flat-plate burr grinder. Really.

I finally found the perfect grinder

I have had 3 different coffee grinders in the last 10 years. All were in the $150+ price range. This is by far the best. You can easily grind just the amount of coffee you need, you have many options on grind for various types of coffee makers and best of all, this grinder requires very little cleanup after using. Everything from the dials, bright and large display to the coffee container are user friendly and practical. This grinder does not take up much space on the kitchen counter and looks great next to my coffee maker!

no extra-course grind

I have a love/hate relationship with this grinder. I like it for most of the reasons given in other reviews. I hate it because I need extra-course coffee for my coffee pot. The grind which is the most course is basically for a drip coffee maker. I am not familiar with a French press, but if you don’t have a paper filter, you will have sludge in your coffee. I am replacing a grinder that lasted 13 months. Part of me hopes that this one lasts a long time because it was expensive and part of me hopes that it dies an early death so I can have course-ground coffee again.

I bought this last October to go with the Dual Boiler Espresso Maker. Both are great. The grinder really adds to the freshness of each cup brewed.
I had a problem with the 2 shot selection in the espresso mode. When using the port filter it wouldn't stop grinding. Matt Sutton in support was awesome. Breville stands behind its products. We have toaster, juicer and frother and love them all! Bravo.

Best Grinder I've Owned

This grinder is very easy to use. It is easy to adjust the grind sise and amount of grind.
It holds a good amount of beans and the hopper has a sealed lid. The unit makes almost NO mess and grinds perfectly.
I higly recommend this burr grinder.

Previously I had to go through a whole time consuming and messy process to grind beans for a good cup of coffee (pour over & french press)... now, I simply hit a button! I can't really convey how much of a difference this grinder makes. Not only is it easy to use and does an excellent job, but there is virtually no mess! It saves so much time! No scooping, measuring, cleaning spilled grounds, etc makes a world of difference even without factoring in how great it grinds.
The only con I can think of is that it doesn't produce the amount of coffee I think it should. I have to set it to the 3rd "strong" mark for 10g per cup. Hario recommends 10-12g per cup. Still, not a big deal.

We received this as a gift from our wedding registry and I cannot begin to say how happy I was that I added it! It grinds coffee to your liking- from coarse to ultra fine. Great for french presses, drip and espresso machines. It can be a bit loud, and at times, the beans get stuck, but a gentle shake takes care of that. It keeps the coffee, both the newly ground and the stored beans, fresh for some time.

Best Gift Ever!

My husband told me this morning that this is the best gift he has ever received. I bought it nearly a year ago and we LOVE it. Once you figure out the amount/strength of coffee you prefer, it makes a consistent pot of coffee every time. We use it for regular coffee and espresso. We've gone through plenty of grinders, and this is the cleanest one - no mess on the counter. You can grind straight into the espresso portafilter. We've also gone through quite a few coffee makers looking for the best one, and we found that this grinder actually made more of a difference than the different coffee makers. Easy to clean too, so beans don't get clogged in teh burrs.

A grinder who "knows" the grind I need for the kind of coffee I am making, along with the exact amount necessary. This grinder eliminates guess work and ensures a consistent, perfect cup of coffee each time. This is truly a worthy investment if one likes good coffee and is purchasing quality beans.

I've had this burr grinder for 8 months now and have loved it since I plugged it in. I most often use an automatic drip coffeemaker but I also employ a French press and manual espresso pot. This grinder has settings to accommodate them all! Not only that, but it's relatively quiet when compared to other grinders...I can even run it in the early morning when two children and husband are still sleeping - with no fear of waking them! This review wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention the fact that there's no static within the grounds - it's mess-free.
If you're trying to decide if it's worth the money, you're not alone. I looked at this for a long time and finally decided to pull the trigger. I'm so glad I did. And don't forget to think about how much better your coffee will taste! That has been my experience; with the only changed variable being the grinder, my coffee tasted noticeably better. If you are at all particular about your coffee, this grinder will not disappoint.

My husband and I are not necessarily coffee grinder experts. Our experience has been using a tiny little manual coffee grinder that makes a huge mess and does not grind very much coffee. It has only one setting: terrible.
We decided we had had enough of fighting with grinding coffee when we are both tired from our jobs. We did some research and found this Breville grinder to be very highly rated and of course more expensive than many other grinders. Let us tell you that it is worth the extra money.
I won't go into too much detail on all the features since they have been covered extensively, but suffice it to say, it is easy to use, convenient, makes for delicious coffee and our lives are better having it. =)

I had this Breville Grinder for over a year now. We use it daily. Clean up is easy. Love this machine. It's expensive, but worth every penning of it. No need to look more for a good grinder machine.
