Poor Instructions. Cheese Oozed Out!
September 21, 2013
I love grilled cheese sandwiches, so I was very excited to try this.
Curiously, there are no instructions for making a basic grilled cheese sandwich...
I seasoned the appliance earlier today. I made 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with Orowheat Italian white bread (standard bread slices). For each sandwich, I used 2 slices of cheese: Lucerne medium cheddar and Tillamook Colby Jack.
At 2 minutes and 40 seconds, I was horrified to see cheese oozing out of the maker and dripping onto my countertop!
I unplugged the device and removed the sandwiches. They were not sealed at all of the edges.
I'll try it again with 1-1/2 slices of cheese instead of 2. Breville really needs to give more complete instructions!
At this point, I am a little fearful to try anything more elaborate.
As for cleaning, it's not that difficult. It is cumbersome - but keep in mind that I had cheese everywhere!
And the side of the box says "how do you STOP THE OOZE?" under a picture of a cheese wedge... go figure.
Pros: Time-saver, Speed, Quiet
Cons: Difficult to Use, Temperamental, cheese oozes out of maker, poor instructions
