THE PERFECT ROASTING PAN

WHAT A GREAT PAN! I PURCHASED THIS ROASTER 3 WEEKS AGO AND BAKED OUR EASTER HAM. THE RACK FITS LOW TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ROASTER AND ALLOWS THE JUICES TO FLOW TO THE SIDES FOR EASY ACCESS WHEN BASTING. CLEANUP WAS A BREEZE!

What a huge disappointment this pan turned out to be. After one use:
Had to run it through the dishwasher twice and then hand scrub to remove plain old roast beef grease.
The pan itself discolored on the inside to an orange tint.
The rack chipped (no, no metal utensils or sharp bones to blame).
I will be asking for a refund.

Great Roaster... Not gravy ready

This pan is beautiful and works very well for actually roasting. However, I was looking for a pan that could go from oven to stove top to make a good gravy. The dome on the bottom of this pan means the heat is focused in an area of the pan that doesn't have any juice to reduce! It's very frustrating to constantly having to be stirring the gravy back over the middle of the pan to get it over the high heat areas and to keep the center of the pan from burning. I get the "point" of the dome, to drive juices to the side for basting but if you're looking for a pan to go straight from oven to stove top then you should probably keep looking.

I was going to buy this until I read this comment. That's a deal breaker for me. Making sauces/gravies is a huge part of a roaster.

"Wow!" came the acclaim as the mahogany bird emerged from the oven with the scents of crispy cracklings filling the air. "I know, it really came out well". "What?" came the confused response. "No, not the bird! The pan! That roaster is gorgeous! And the 20 pound bird fits nicely. Look at all those features....heavy metal gauge, perfect V shaped rack, great handles...It's got it all!"

The best roast pan!!!

Just because my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving (and I'm sure yours might be too) I've tried all kinds of roasting pans to make the best turkey and turkey gravy (let alone all sorts of turkeys, but I'm not reviewing turkeys here). HANDS DOWN, this is the best roaster ever!!!! I've tried non-stick, copper, you name it, and this is truly the best roaster and at a good price too. The heavy gauge steel will hold up to years of use. I personally love the stainless as the drippings help make for lovely gravy afterwards. I've had my roaster for over 10 years and purchased this one as a gift. This will be the roaster you will have forever!

Great hand me down

Got this pan as a hand me down from my parents. They decided to get the non stick version. This thing has been flawless for years. It always cooks evenly and looks great. We heat it up on the stove to sear prime rib before roasting it, and for making gravy. Some have complained about the slight lip around the edge that keeps it from being induction compatable. That is unfortunate for people with induction stoves, but the lip, and very slightly domed bottom allow juices to flow to the edges of the pan for easy basting. great pan

Cooks turkeys, chickens, prime rib to perfection every time. Everything browns and caramelizes perfectly in the bottom of the pan and creates amazing gravies. lift the meat out with the rack to rest and transfer the roaster to the stove top. super easy and versatile also works well if your just making roasted veggies and potatoes.

Good product, poor descriptions

I gave this product three stars not because it does a bad job, but because of how the use and care info was written. It says "use with gas and electric". What it DOES NOT say is that it can't be used on an induction element of cooktop. So if you don't need to make pan gravy - not a problem. If you hope for turkey or chicken gravy or sauce of another type using pan fond... can't do it in this pan if you have induction cooktop. For most- not an issue. For me, it was. Too bad. Don't know if I will return or not. Please make this restriction as clear in writeup on site as it is on the outside of the box itself.

Easy to handle (but a bit heavy to lift), cooks well, cleans easily. Perfect size when cooking for one to four. I hesitated purchasing this roaster for a few months but am I glad finally took the plunge. So far, I've used it to cook a spiral ham and roast a duck and enjoyed using the roaster as well as the resulting meal.

Stunning Roaster

This All Clad roaster is a beauty! It also cooks your turkey or ham to profection, and makes a stunning presentation when your family and friends see it coming from the oven., Prepare to exercise your biceps, as this roaster is heavy, and with a 14 lb turkey, it gets REAL heavy! Worth it though. Only thing is, and I don't know how it happened or what exactly did happen, but when I put it in the dishwasher, the roaster came out with a stain (maybe a hard water stain), and so I used a sponge with the green scrub thing on the other side. Well, of course, the green side of the sponge was too rough, and made scratch marks on my brand new roaster. Made me sick, I'll tell ya!

Good, Sturdy Roaster

The pan is great! But, I also got the meat thermometer with the roaster and the meat thermometer does not work. We cooked a 14-lb prime rib roast for Christmas Eve and it came out wonderful. I did discover that the oven temperature needs to be slightly higher than called for because the bottom of the roast (bone side on rack) did not cook as evenly as the rest of the roast. Maybe due to lack of heat convection through pan on the bottom? I will experiment further to solved this. Overall a good sturdy roaster for those large entree occasions. We will probable purchase the smaller roaster also for those everyday oven roasting meals.

Warning - cannot be used on induction cooktops!!

This pan has a one inch bevel around its bottom perimeter. Consequently, there isn't enough surface area on the bottom of the roaster to make contact with an induction element! The description does not mention this shortcoming. I would never have purchased this roaster if I had known that I couldn't use it on my induction cooktop. What good is a roasting pan that doesn't allow you to make gravy??

Thank you so much for commenting on the beveled bottom. I couldn't see that in the photos, and while I don't have an induction range, I do have a glass top electric, and a bevel won't make contact with the glass and thus is not compatible with my electric cooker either. I was thinking of having this shipped...thanks for saving me from having to return it!

Not induction compatible
It is not that the pan does not make contact with the induction element. The pan is not induction compatible, not being ferromagnetic enough. Test it with a kitchen magnet and you will find that it does not stick. That is the problem, not the bevel. We tested it with a magnet and no stick. I asked All-Clad if there were plans to make one induction compatible and they said they would take it under advisement so to speak.
Viking makes a very nice pan, induction compatible same quality of build, same size.

This roaster cooks my meat perfectly every time. It is a little pricey, but as always, you get what you pay for. I prefer to use All Clad in my kitchen, and this roaster is no exception. We did get it monogrammed, and it just gives it that little extra touch of class when I go right from the oven to the table with it! The only con I checked off was difficult to clean, and that is because I must have a smaller than average sink (in an apartment building) and it just BARELY fits to be washed.

This roaster was a star on our kitchen this Thanksgiving. The V-shaped rack held everything in place, so nothing got stuck to the pan, apart from the juicy drippings of the turkey. And the thermometer that came with it was very useful and very precise.

I haven't even used this roaster yet!, but I can tell you, like other reviewers before me, that it's beautiful. Also: substantial, well-made -- a probable heirloom piece to be handed down for generations. Well worth owning. I purchased the 'large' and it's just the right size. Enjoy!

I used this roaster to make Thanksgiving dinner last week. Not only did the bird cook evenly all over without tinfoil, but the clean-up was so easy as to be almost non-existent. The nonstick rack worked perfectly. Nothing stuck to the pan bottom. The drippings were wonderfully aromatic. I've long hesitated to make roasted birds because of the clean-up hassle. But no more!
