My new "go to" pot!
February 1, 2014
How do I love this pot? Let me count the ways. First of all I love the size to weight ratio. Try enameled cast iron in this size and the weight difference is huge. Secondly, the size of the handles in relation to the pot are excellent. They almost look too big but they are not. I don't use oven mitts, I prefer to use kitchen towels as pot holders and these handles work well for me. The shape of this pot is great because with the lower surface area of the bottom cooking surface it leaves less room for scorching or burning. The rounded side also mean that food is less likely to get stuck and scorch or burn. The domed lid is great because as steam rises in the pot it hit the cooler lid (stainless steel is not a great heat conductor) and condenses back down onto what you are cooking, It's like built in basting. Lastly, it's easy to clean. All in all, this pot is a winner!
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Easy to Clean, Easy to Store, Size, Versatile, Shape, Design, Weight

My new favorite pot
February 5, 2013
I have the 4 quart soup pots (2 of them) and the 6 quart Deep fry pan (whatever the name is) in d-5, so I thought this pot would be a good replacement for my Le Creuset pot, which is really heavy. It was expensive, but I got it on short-run, website only sale. I love the d-5 line, and this pot is no exception. I've used this 5.5 pot for sautéing -the high sides reduce the splatter-, for split pea soup and red beans and rice. I expect to use it often. It's a joy to use. It heats evenly and responds quickly to flame adjustments. It will hold a small amount as well as enough for a small group, and the wide surface area makes it easy to reduce liquid for a sauce. The lid fits really well, and I did not need to use a layer of foil with the lid when I made a pot roast. It's not non-stick, which I like, and hasn't been a problem to clean. Well worth the money, although I feel great that I got it slightly on sale.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Quality, Size, Versatile, Shape, Design, Weight
